This colour seemed to be related to activity - when the octopus was moving quickly across the pool it often took on this dark texture.
The octopus often went this pale colour when it was over the blue/grey rocks. Possibly copying the colour on the sides of the rock pool.
These two sharks harassed swimmers in the shallows as well as annoying fishermen by stealing their catch.
I fed the octopus every day, and the various triplefin fishes also benefitted. There were about 50 in the rock pool and they quickly learned that I was a source of food.
Well, almost. I gave the octopus a small mullet carcass which was totally gone by the next day - no remains left that I could see.
I would have loved this shell for my collection but unfortunately it was already spoken for so I made do with a few photos instead. The shell is Maurea sp and about 40mm wide. The hermit crab is probably Pagurus sp.
The gulls have left the nest site and had moved to an adjacent small rocky bay to feed. The young (with black bills and mottled plumage) were working out what was food while the adults (red bill) watched over them.
Double trouble for the fish. Simba loves their food and wants to eat it, but can't reach it. And of course is attracted to the movement of the fish, which keep just out of reach. He tries hard, but doesn't do any harm.
