On my last walk to the beach before we headed home I got caught in the rain, as did this Welcome swallow.
This is most likely Ophiopsammus maculata, the snake brittle star. Two were washed up on the sand on successive tides.
Most of the jellyfish were dead and broken up by the time they washed ashore, but this Lion's mane was still alive and swimming in a rock pool.
Hundreds of Crystal jellyfish and tens of these Lion's mane jellyfish were washing up on the beach over a few days.
A group of four tourists set out to climb the hill - 165 metres high - on private property and meant to be off limits. Two made it to the top, the other two tried to turn back and ended up taking an even riskier route along the face. All within two hours of sunset. By the time they were reunited and safely down, it was dark!
Probably Dendrodoris denisoni. It was about 8cm long and was up out of the water when I found it. As soon as I put it into a shallow pool it unfurled and showed its beauty.
This time the action was all over by the time I got closer to the estuary. It's amazing to watch them diving into the shallows.
