I have been working through a sample of shell sand that I collected last December. The objective is to find and photograph the micro-molluscs and upload them to iNaturalist. These are all 1-2mm. The next few photos are some of the individual shells, all shown on a 1mm grid.
The momentary "head up-tail up" display. It's all about displaying the bright blue speculum feathers and is accompanied by a whistle.
We call it crayfish. It's actually red rock lobster (Jasus edwardsii) and I found this one freshly dead at the tide line.
