Mother mallard/grey duck hybrid and her duckling swimming upstream at a small weir. They struggled a bit in the current but eventually succeeded.
The octopus encounter below was a bonus on this day - my real purpose was to check out the red-billed gull colony on the cliffs. They were showing well, with several babies of different ages in view.
The octopus checked and declined the limpet I gave it, and also some small mussels. After a while some whelks came out to feed on the mussel meat and the octopus rounded them up.
A mouthful of food for the nestlings but Simba was hanging around. The lowered wing position is part of the blackbird's alarm signal. I engaged the cat and the babies got fed.
